Hidden Spring Vineyard

We're situated on a 23 acre small-holding in Horam, just outside Heathfield, in the heart of East Sussex.

The vineyard was originally established in 1986 and experienced many years of successful, high-quality wine production, providing award-winning wines across the country.

In the mid 2000s the vineyard was converted to a campsite and continued to draw people to Horam.

However, in 2015 the vineyard was expanded, removing the remains of the campsite and planting over 24,000 vines of 5 different varieties across 13 acres into the vineyard you see today.

Our Owners

Richard and Sara Asman took ownership of Hidden Spring Vineyard in early 2022. They moved back to the UK, having spent most of their lives in South Africa, when their adult children chose to come back to England to continue their university studies. Richard, a Pharmacist, has spent the last 30 years bulding up various companies within the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector and Sara, an Art Psychotherapist with her own practice helping people on a daily basis. They are both passionate about the English wine industry and plan on developing Hidden Spring by expanding the range of excellent wines we produce as well opening up the vineyard to more visitors with a wide offering of events. “We are both really excited about being part of the expanding British wine community and look forward to playing our part in the global appreciation of the fine wines our area produces”.

The Winemaker & Vineyard Manager

Micaela is our Viticulturist and Winemaker. She has been with us since 2019 and has made a huge difference to both the quality of fruit our vineyard produces and the wines that ultimately come from it. Micaela is a graduate of Plumpton College and brings many years of experience, both international and local, to our Hidden Spring team. She keeps our vines looking perfect and well groomed as well as co-ordinating harvest and production of our wonderful wines. Look out for her in the winery or on her trusty blue tractor in the vineyard.

The Tasting Room Manager

Alex is our Tasting Room manager and runs our shop and tasting room and hosts most of our winery tours and our cheese and wine pairing tours and events. Alex is a graduate of Plumpton College with an expansive knowledge of wine and the wine industry. She has a extensive pallet and will expertly guide you through our wines helping you get every nuance out of them.

Alex is also our resident dragon ambassador - always happy to engage in anything “dragon”!

The Dogs

Our two Golden Retrievers, Henry and Isla, will often be seem romping through the vineyard. Please feel free to bring your pooches along - Dogs are very welcome!
